Major Julian

Major Estrella Julian - Music Director/Dance Master

Major's musical journey started over 3 decades ago, having trained in classical and contemporary music and performing with prestigious artists such as concert pianist Sally Christian as well as performing with the Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Timothy M. Smith.

He has spent the last 8 of the 21 years in the San Francisco Bay Area's Filipino folk dance community focused on music and dance of the indigenous people of the Philippines; applying a pragmatic approach marrying the fine art of music and the performing art of dance.

Currently, Major moonlights as the Music Director of Parangal Dance Company, supporting their Mission to discover, preserve, educate, and inspire as they travel the world.

Major Julian participated in his first Pilipino Cultural Night at San Francisco State University as a dancer in Spring of 1998 and has always been fascinated by cultural dancing ever since. Subsequently, Major continued his endeavor with each proceeding year; his participation progressed as years went on from soloist in 2000, choreographer in 2001, then Cultural/PCN Coordinator in 2002. Shortly after, Major graduated with a B.A. in Asian-American Studies with an emphasis in Art, Media, and Contemporary Communities from San Francisco State University 2003. He continued his journey by joining various dance companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.

2002-2003 | Palabuniyan Kulintang Ensemble (percussionist)

2003-2004 | Haranistas Rondalla (musician)

2008-Pres | Parangal Dance Company (Music Director)

As a musician, Mr. Julian has been trained in classical and contemporary western music since 1988, performing with various artists such as concert pianist Sally Christian as well as performed with the Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Timothy M. Smith.

As an integral member since the conception of Parangal Dance Company, Mr. Julian has performed at many notable performances around the nation.

He served as choreographer for Silayan Dance Troupe, dancer with Barangay Dance Company, percussionist with Palabuniyan Kulintang Ensemble, musician with Haranistas Rondalla and dancer and Music Director of Parangal since 2008.

As a musician, Major has been trained in classical and contemporary western music since 1988, performing with various artists.  As an integral member of Parangal since its conception, Major has performed at many notable performances around the nation and around the world.
